Buffalo City Mission’s vision is to restore hope to the homeless and hurting of Western New York. We provide emergency shelter and nourishing meals to thousands of homeless men, women and children. But we don’t believe that’s enough.

With the strengths of our Men’s Center and our new state-of-the-art shelter for women and children, Cornerstone Manor, Buffalo City Mission provides comprehensive recovery programs to help homeless men, women and children rebuild stable, healthy, productive lives.

The purpose of Buffalo City Mission is to proclaim and demonstrate the life-changing Gospel of Jesus Christ, meeting the spiritual, physical, and emotional needs of men, women and children who are homeless or in need of hope, by providing the following:

  • Share the message of the gospel of Jesus Christ

Job Description:

This position is responsible to ensure the receiving area and back room are maintained according to Mission procedures as well as providing excellent service to customers of the Mission’s Thrift Shop and helps to maintain the store’s appearance and efficient operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the flow of merchandise from delivery to the sales floor or an internal destination
  • Responsible for receiving, unpacking, processing and sorting, organizing, and flow of merchandise
  • Contribute to the profitability of the store by handling and helping to manage inventory and supplies in a timely and organized manner.
  • Provide a great customer, donor and volunteer experience.
  • Help to maintain inventory levels by keeping storage areas clean and organized and sharing knowledge of merchandise with management
  • Responsible for keeping a clean, safe and organized backroom to ensure efficiency
  • Work alongside, train and utilize volunteers to assist in completing tasks more efficiently
  • Cross train in operating cash register, customer service, tagging and pricing, and stocking and turnover of merchandise on the sales floor.
  • Responsible for receiving donations and providing tax receipts and customer service to donors.
  • Responsible for helping in receiving trucks and ensuring merchandise goes to proper location.
  • Responsible for tracking and reporting flow of the backroom including donors, donations, gaylords, truck deliveries, scrap, dump, and cardboard.

Case Manager at Buffalo City Mission

Job Description:
This position advocates and provides holistic, comprehensive case management services to clients including intake assessment, benefit assessment, goal setting, long-term case plan development, weekly case plan development, progress monitoring, individual money management, tenant education, advocacy and referrals.

Work Schedule: Full time position.

Essential Tasks and Functions:

  • Conduct comprehensive client assessments to collect functional, environmental, psychosocial, financial, employment, housing, educational, and health information as appropriate to develop a case plan.
  • Conduct an Initiate Individual Service Plan (ISP) by assisting participants in realistic goal setting, program selection, designing outcomes and helping clients understand their responsibilities and program benefits.
  • Conduct assessment intake with individuals who express interest in entering the Transitional Program.
  • Provide supportive counseling and advocacy for clients.
  • Facilitate community referral, linkage and follow-up with clients and agencies as appropriate to document use/success of referral.
  • Identify and address potential problem areas/ concerns. Consult appropriately with supervisory staff and agencies. Conducts crisis intervention as necessary.
  • Provide all required documentation in a timely manner, which may include client follow-up, outcome evaluation, client contact sheets, and evaluations.
  • Participate in regular staff meetings, staff training programs, supervisory sessions, and accept the responsibility for aiding the development of positive team relationships as requested.
  • Facilitate client classes to support client progress.
  • Maintain a caseload of clients and provide holistic and comprehensive case management services.
  • Regularly monitor and verify services provided to each client, determining quality and effectiveness.
  • Ensure that records and files are updated, accurate and organized and submit reports as required.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience:

Facilities - PT Custodial Associate - Variable Hours

Essential Tasks and Functions:

  • Sweeps, mops, scrubs and waxes the floors, stairs and other surfaces inside the facility.
  • Ensures that all entrances are clean and maintained appropriately for the public
  • Collects and disposes of trash and debris inside the facility.
  • Checks for and replace burned out light bulbs.
  • Cleans restrooms.
  • Maintains adequate levels of supplies and cleaning solutions; and advises management of need to re-order
  • Notifies Management of any emergency maintenance issues.
  • Maintains a welcoming and clean environment for all staff, visitors and customers.

RC - PT Resident Coordinator, 3-11 shift: Monday, Friday, every other Saturday, every other Sunday

Job Description:
This position fosters a Christ-like caring atmosphere, focusing on life skill development in a safe, healthy, healing environment, while striving to meet the practical needs of all residents.
This position reports to the Manager-Residential Services.  This is a part time position up to 28 hours per week.  Must be able to work on weekends.

Opening are part time, up to 28 hours/week
Shift – 7:00a.m. to 3:00p.m., as follows:
Monday, Friday, Saturday, every other Sunday

Key Responsibilities:

  • Acclimate residents to the facility through the Mission’s initial intake and orientation process..
  • Communicate behavioral actions through the incident reporting process.
  • Conduct unit inspections, document and communicate appropriately to respective management and provide feedback to resident and case management.
  • Report vacated units and prepare them for new residents.
  • Assist residents with day-to-day housekeeping of facility, sleeping, and lounge areas.
  • Oversee emergency shelter linen exchange as well as residents’ laundry.
  • Conduct direct observation drug and alcohol screenings, including breathalyzer and urine tests.
  • Ensure physical comfort and safety of the residents as well as meet their needs for food, shelter, clothing and personal care.
  • Maintain effective communication between staff members and Case Managers by means of various communication vehicles including matrix log, incident, written and verbal reports.
  • All other assigned job responsibilities as needed.

Successful candidates will have:

  • High school diploma or GED, pursuit of/interest in further education.
  • Previous experience in a human services field is preferred.
  • Positive communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Problem-solving abilities and initiatives.
  • Basic computer and written communication skills.

Logistics - FT Dispatcher

Job Description:
This full-time position is responsible for receiving all donations at the Cornerstone Manor location and assisting with some clerical duties of the logistics department with assisting the Manager-Receiving as needed.
Work Schedule: Full time, 40 hours per week.  Schedule will include every Saturday.

Key responsibilities:
•    Phone liaison handling and scheduling donation pick-up appointments and community events.
•    Creates drivers’ schedules based on donation pickup appointments scheduled.
•    Responsible for documenting all receivables that come into receiving department.
•    Accept and sort all incoming donations while providing excellent customer service and a welcoming environment for all donors.
•    Create and monitors excel spreadsheet for monthly donor pickups, salvage and gas reporting.

Successful candidates will have:

  • High School education or GED equivalency.
  • Minimum of 2 – 5 years of relevant work experience in customer service and logistics environment.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds above waist level.

Manager - Logistics

Essential Tasks and Functions

  • Develop a conduit of soliciting new and current goods and donations to supply agape shop and thrift store.
  • Prepare monthly reports which would include but is not limited to gas, monthly vehicle records (mileage, oil changes, repairs, etc.) salvage reconciliation, donation receipts, etc.
  • Plan and oversee employee time & scheduling, forecasting for volunteer/client staff based on daily needs/pick-ups.
  • Collaborate with the Volunteer department for needs to assist staff in receiving department.
  • Coordinate with Client Services department for needs to assist receiving department staff as needed.
  • Oversees daily trucking logistical activities, including drivers dispatch as needed.
  • Log and resolve internal and external client customer service issues within a 24hour time frame.

The person will be training to plan and implement age appropriate activities within a New York State licensed and certified childcare program, teach and play with the children, as well as develop and maintain positive relationships with mothers.

Education and Experience:

  • Associates Degree in Early Childhood, Child Development Accreditation (CDA) or a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Trainee must be able to pass NYS criminal background check guidelines and urine toxicology screening.

Candidates that train within the Cornerstone Manor ECEP will receive training in the following areas:

Completion of a minimum of 30 working hours of training every two years. Fifteen hours of such training must be received during the first six months of employment. Training topics will include:

  • Safety & Security Procedures
  • Business Record Maintenance & Management

  • Sorting, Stocking and Product Movement to best create profit
  • Creating customer retention and increasing a customer base through customer service.
  • Loss Prevention techniques and understanding shrink
  • Product knowledge and team building
  • Greeting vs. Selling
  • Overall understanding of the components of a retail environment and an understanding of the different impacts of each component on profit.
