The Buffalo City Mission has varied service opportunities to accommodate all individual and group volunteer needs for civic organizations, churches, businesses, schools and other groups as well. Below is general information about areas that are available for service. Our age requirements are 18 years old and above for individuals and 16 years old and above for groups. If you would like to receive specific details about the volunteer opportunities as an individual or a group or are seeking to do a collection drive or collection party to provide practical needs please contact the Volunteer Department at: 716-854-8181 x404 for individual opportunities, x 419 for group opportunities and x438 for donation needs and process information. Meal Service Assistant
The Kitchen is seeking volunteers willing to serve meals, help with cleaning, setting tables, and occasional food preparation.
This is an ongoing opportunity available at both the Men’s Community Center and Cornerstone Manor.
No culinary experience is required.
Thrift Store Retail Attendant
The Thrift Store is looking for volunteers who enjoy discovering unique treasures and loves retail services!
The Thrift Store is owned and operated by the Buffalo City Mission and serves as one of our community oriented volunteer sites. This placement site involves: sorting, hanging, tagging, merchandizing clothing and some small cleaning tasks. Volunteers must be able to stand for 2-3 hours at a time, but do not require any retail experience, just a friendly customer service attitude and a smile.
The Thrift Store is located at 576 Dick Rd #10 Depew, NY 14043.
Receiving Department
The receiving department is seeking male volunteers willing to accept, sort, and organize various donated items. These may include clothing, accessories, food, and household items.
In addition, volunteers may be asked to complete miscellaneous housekeeping duties, such as sweeping or organizing items on shelves.
Community Collection Drives
There are many ways our community can help make an impact in lives of those we serve. There is a constant need throughout the year to provide basic essentials for men, women and children through food and clothing drives. To learn how to host a collection drive through your organization, church or school, please contact the Volunteer Department at 716-854-8181 ext. 408.
This is a great opportunity for students to be able to gain community service hours!
Childcare Helper
Daycare
The daycare is looking for female volunteers willing to assist the daycare staff in providing the many hands needed to care for the infants, preschoolers and toddlers of Cornerstone Manor. A heart of kindness and patience to care for little ones is required. A background check will be performed prior to time of service.
Afterschool Program
The afterschool program is looking for female volunteers willing to work closely with the children of Cornerstone Manor on their homework assignments and educational tasks.
Along with working at Cornerstone Manor, there may be occasional fieldtrips and/or scholastic experiences to help meet the educational needs of the children. A background check will be performed prior to time of service.
