“Whatever you do unto the least of these, you do it unto me.”
Our Volunteer Spotlight – Karen McAllister
Our Volunteer Spotlight recognizes the work done by a volunteer, Karen McAllister.
Karen volunteers several days a week in the kitchen and the pantry at Cornerstone Manor for women and children and at the Men’s Community Center. One day while at Church, she heard a message, “Whatever you do unto the least of these, you do it unto me,” and it changed her heart. She knew she needed to volunteer and she knew it was with us.
At first, Karen only volunteered here one day per week, and now she volunteers full time with us. She used to work at a Doctor’s office, but felt the call to make her work at the Buffalo City Mission a priority. She has watched how God has supplied all of the needs of her family since she made that decision.
Karen says that you do not need dynamic talents, to work at the City Mission, because, God uses humble skills. She preps food, serves food and helps in the food pantry here.
She remembers one client, who came to us at the Buffalo City Mission a little rough around the edges. She certainly had pain and a challenging life. She was afraid, and her defenses were up. Karen got to witness her walls slowly break down, and her heart softened and watched as this woman healed and moved on from needing the Buffalo City Mission. She came to realize that you can volunteer at the City Mission to be a blessing to others, but the blessing comes back at you ten times fold.
Anyone who knows Karen knows that she serves with a smile. Her joy and her love is infectious, and we appreciate all she for the residents who live here, and for us. She said you do not need a lot of skill to volunteer, but she sure has plenty of heart. Thank you, Karen!
