Buffalo City Mission’s vision is to restore hope to the homeless and hurting of Western New York. We provide emergency shelter and nourishing meals to thousands of homeless men, women and children. But we don’t believe that’s enough.

With the strengths of our Men’s Center and our new state-of-the-art shelter for women and children, Cornerstone Manor, Buffalo City Mission provides comprehensive recovery programs to help homeless men, women and children rebuild stable, healthy, productive lives.

Grant Administrator for Buffalo City Mission

Job Description:
The Grant Administrator primarily plans, organizes and directs: 1) all aspects related to grants including seeking, tracking, monitoring, funding, and administration; 2) supports the Executive Director and CFO in the carrying out of their responsibilities as needed.

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, Full time position.  Some night, weekends and holidays may be required as needed.

Key responsibilities:

  • Be the primary driver for BCM to secure and manage grant funding.
  • Work directly with BCM’s Executive Director, CFO and Senior Directors to ensure that appropriate grants are being sought to maximize grant opportunities and funding.
  • Ensure the accurate, timely, efficient and transparent process for the entire grant life cycle, from proposal to close. This entails pre-award management, tracking payments, reviewing and producing relevant reports, and monitoring for grants as needed.
  • Work closely with the CFO and Director-Finance to make sure grant income is properly recorded/allocated and received in the accounting system.
  • Work with Senior Directors to develop and maintain all grant agreements pertaining to grant awards and applications.
  • Keep management informed of the grant performance and provide advice on all related matters.

Successful candidates will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as English/Accounting or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years documented successful grant writing experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and creatively.

Thrift Store Back Room Associate - Buffalo City Mission

Job Description:

This position is responsible to ensure the receiving area and back room are maintained according to Mission procedures as well as providing excellent service to customers of the Mission’s Thrift Shop and helps to maintain the store’s appearance and efficient operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the flow of merchandise from delivery to the sales floor or an internal destination
  • Responsible for receiving, unpacking, processing and sorting, organizing, and flow of merchandise
  • Contribute to the profitability of the store by handling and helping to manage inventory and supplies in a timely and organized manner.
  • Provide a great customer, donor and volunteer experience.
  • Help to maintain inventory levels by keeping storage areas clean and organized and sharing knowledge of merchandise with management
  • Responsible for keeping a clean, safe and organized backroom to ensure efficiency
  • Work alongside, train and utilize volunteers to assist in completing tasks more efficiently

Men’s Center:

RC - PT Resident Coordinator, 3-11 shift: Monday, Friday, every other Saturday, every other Sunday

Job Description:
This position fosters a Christ-like caring atmosphere, focusing on life skill development in a safe, healthy, healing environment, while striving to meet the practical needs of all residents.
This position reports to the Manager-Residential Services.  This is a part time position up to 28 hours per week.  Must be able to work on weekends.

Opening are part time, up to 28 hours/week
Shift – 7:00a.m. to 3:00p.m., as follows:
Monday, Friday, Saturday, every other Sunday

Key Responsibilities:

  • Acclimate residents to the facility through the Mission’s initial intake and orientation process..
  • Communicate behavioral actions through the incident reporting process.
  • Conduct unit inspections, document and communicate appropriately to respective management and provide feedback to resident and case management.
  • Report vacated units and prepare them for new residents.
  • Assist residents with day-to-day housekeeping of facility, sleeping, and lounge areas.
  • Oversee emergency shelter linen exchange as well as residents’ laundry.
  • Conduct direct observation drug and alcohol screenings, including breathalyzer and urine tests.
  • Ensure physical comfort and safety of the residents as well as meet their needs for food, shelter, clothing and personal care.
  • Maintain effective communication between staff members and Case Managers by means of various communication vehicles including matrix log, incident, written and verbal reports.
  • All other assigned job responsibilities as needed.

Successful candidates will have:

  • High school diploma or GED, pursuit of/interest in further education.
  • Previous experience in a human services field is preferred.

Kitchen - Lead Chef

Job Description:
This position is responsible for planning for well-balanced, nourishing meal preparation and for meeting the dietary needs of the clients of the Buffalo City Mission.  In addition this position is responsible for instructing volunteers and clients in minor food preparation, serving meals, and cleaning up the dining room and kitchen after each service.

This is a full time position.

Key responsibilities:

  • Responsible for assisting the Food Service Manager with the preparation of the department’s yearly Budget.
  • Conduct routine monthly food safety inspections.
  • Maintain a sanitary environment that is in accordance with NYS Sanitary Regulations and ensure that staff is trained and performing in conformance with regulations,
  • Maintain a friendly, collaborative relationship with other staff and residents.
  • Knowledge of reheating and maintaining proper food temperatures of pre-cooked meals and acceptable food storage and cleaning techniques.

Logistics - FT Dispatcher

This full-time position is responsible for receiving all donations at the Cornerstone Manor location and assisting with some clerical duties of the logistics department with assisting the Manager-Receiving as needed.
Work Schedule: Full time, 40 hours per week.  Schedule will include every Saturday.

Key responsibilities:
•    Phone liaison handling and scheduling donation pick-up appointments and community events.
•    Creates drivers’ schedules based on donation pickup appointments scheduled.
•    Responsible for documenting all receivables that come into receiving department.
•    Accept and sort all incoming donations while providing excellent customer service and a welcoming environment for all donors.
•    Create and monitors excel spreadsheet for monthly donor pickups, salvage and gas reporting.

Successful candidates will have:

Logistics - Truck Driver/Assistant

Job Description:

This position is a full-time position and is responsible for picking up donations from residences or other donation sites as schedule are assigned.

Key responsibilities:

  • Treat all customers courteously and in a manner representative of the Mission and its values.
  • Operate vehicle in accordance to the laws of New York State and the expectations of the Buffalo City Mission as detailed in driver orientation.
  • Observe all safety standards in the proper loading and unloading truck.
  • Check to ensure that truck cab and box are clean and all personal items are removed daily.
  • Maintain complete and accurate records including driving log.
  • Perform daily walk around inspection of vehicle, checking air, water, oil, and other items.
  • Provide assistance to Thrift Store personnel when delivering items to ensure the proper placement and location within the store.
  • Obey all traffic regulations.

Successful candidates will have:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 1 to 2 years’ experience packing, securing and transporting merchandise.
  • Positive communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must have a valid, clean NYS driver’s license, CDL is preferred but not required

Childhood Enrichment Program Coordinator

Job Description:
This part-time position is responsible to further develop, oversee and maintain the After School program which includes the Summer Day Camp program.  This position exists to support, manage, supplement and/or teach study skills so that students are empowered and encouraged to boost spiritual growth and academic achievement.

  • Work Schedule: August – June, Monday – Friday 1:30PM to 6:30PM
    June – August (summer months, 40 hours/week), Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM

Key responsibilities:

  • Design, schedule, implement and monitor specific duties & routine activities for LEAP and SKATE programs; seasonal events appropriate for each age group, field trips and parent, child, teacher, family, and case manager conferences as needed.
  • Accountable for student, summer staff & volunteer recruitment and retention
  • Provide academic support, develop learning opportunities and build effective curriculum & assessments
  • Build recreational sports activities that promote educational, group and personal skills through practice.
