Buffalo City Mission’s vision is to restore hope to the homeless and hurting of Western New York. We provide emergency shelter and nourishing meals to thousands of homeless men, women and children. But we don’t believe that’s enough.

With the strengths of our Men’s Center and our new state-of-the-art shelter for women and children, Cornerstone Manor, Buffalo City Mission provides comprehensive recovery programs to help homeless men, women and children rebuild stable, healthy, productive lives.

The purpose of Buffalo City Mission is to proclaim and demonstrate the life-changing Gospel of Jesus Christ, meeting the spiritual, physical, and emotional needs of men, women and children who are homeless or in need of hope, by providing the following:

  • Share the message of the gospel of Jesus Christ
  • Offer services to meet immediate physical needs of those seeking assistance, including food, clothing, shelter, and medical care

Adult Education Coordinator for Buffalo City Mission

Job Description:
This position develops programs and strategies for the coordination and promotion of quality adult continuing education under the direction of the Director of Education and Training. Provides direction and coordination in the classroom environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Help to develop, plan, implement and supervise activities of the Adult Continuing Education classes.
  • Adhere to the department’s budget, special grant applications and recommend other funding sources to assist the program in fulfilling its purpose.
  • Gather information from facilitators to develop and update the schedules/rosters on a semester basis.
  • Assess individual student’s educational, vocational skill level.
  • Implement, teach, and evaluate student’s goal outcomes; provide feedback to student and staff peers.
  • Implement programs and oversees program activities and evaluations.
  • Conduct orientation with new students, set up educational resources in accordance with individual student’s goals or based on particular class requirements.
  • Support clients toward self-sufficiency by providing opportunities in job and home skill building, behavior modification, child literacy and adult continuing education, financial management, nutrition, parenting and other needed guidance.

Assistant Dispatcher Receiving at Buffalo City Mission

Job Description:
This part-time position is responsible for clerical duties of the logistics department at the men’s center location and assisting the Manager-Receiving as needed.
Work Schedule: Part time, up to 28 hours per week.  Schedule will include rotating Saturdays.

Key responsibilities:

  • Phone liaison handling and assisting with scheduling donation pick-up appointments and community events.
  • Create drivers’ schedules based on donation pickup appointments scheduled.
  • Receive carrier deliveries and inform recipient to come pick-up packages for the appropriate department(s).
  • Responsible for and oversee referral program, prepare and monitor monthly reports.
  • Responsible for documenting all receivables that come into receiving department.
  • Responsible for filing documentation: all receiving items, Mileage logs, gas receipts, food bank donations, etc.

Job Description:
This part-time position for the evening chaplain at Buffalo City Mission is to uphold the Mission Statement, Statement of Faith, and Values of the Buffalo City Mission as defined in the Employee Handbook.  The position of the evening chaplain will help oversee all Christian activities in the evenings including, Bibles studies, Chapel Services and spiritual guidance for those in need.

Job Description:
The Grant Administrator primarily plans, organizes and directs: 1) all aspects related to grants including seeking, tracking, monitoring, funding, and administration; 2) supports the Executive Director and CFO in the carrying out of their responsibilities as needed.

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, Full time position.  Some night, weekends and holidays may be required as needed.

Key responsibilities:

  • Be the primary driver for BCM to secure and manage grant funding.
  • Work directly with BCM’s Executive Director, CFO and Senior Directors to ensure that appropriate grants are being sought to maximize grant opportunities and funding.
  • Ensure the accurate, timely, efficient and transparent process for the entire grant life cycle, from proposal to close. This entails pre-award management, tracking payments, reviewing and producing relevant reports, and monitoring for grants as needed.
  • Work closely with the CFO and Director-Finance to make sure grant income is properly recorded/allocated and received in the accounting system.
  • Work with Senior Directors to develop and maintain all grant agreements pertaining to grant awards and applications.
  • Keep management informed of the grant performance and provide advice on all related matters.

Successful candidates will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as English/Accounting or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years documented successful grant writing experience.

This position fosters a Christ-like caring atmosphere, focusing on life skill development in a safe, healthy, healing environment, while striving to meet the practical needs of all residents.
This position reports to the Manager-Residential Services. This is a part time position up to 28 hours per week.

Openings are part time, up to 28 hours/week.
2 openings:

1st shift – 7:00a.m. to 3:00p.m., alternating days as follows:
Week 1: Thurs-Sat, Week 2: Thurs, Friday, Sunday, Monday
Or
2nd shift – 11:00p.m. to 7:00a.m, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and every other Saturday

Key Responsibilities:

  • Acclimate residents to the facility through the Mission’s initial intake and orientation process..
  • Communicate behavioral actions through the incident reporting process.
  • Conduct unit inspections, document and communicate appropriately to respective management and provide feedback to resident and case management.
  • Report vacated units and prepare them for new residents.
  • Assist residents with day-to-day housekeeping of facility, sleeping, and lounge areas.
  • Oversee emergency shelter linen exchange as well as residents’ laundry.
  • Conduct direct observation drug and alcohol screenings, including breathalyzer and urine tests.
  • Ensure physical comfort and safety of the residents as well as meet their needs for food, shelter, clothing and personal care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Follows all safety and security policies and procedures consistently.
  • Ensures that the correct entry control processes are followed consistently.

Job Description:
The Volunteer Coordinator will be responsible to schedule each individual by matching the interests of volunteers with an opportunity that best suits their skill set/interest to be able to serve the organization’s needs. The volunteer coordinator must make an effort to ensure that individual volunteers feel comfortable with their placements and fully understand their responsibilities.  This position will also be responsible for all communication to organize volunteers’ schedules and ensure the volunteers are aware of additional volunteering opportunities.

Work Schedule: Part time, up to 28 hours per week.  Flexible hours: days, evenings and weekends as needed.  Must be available to work holidays (ex. Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc.)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage volunteer orientation process and tours; interviewing, screening , placements, schedules and exiting of volunteers
  • Help organize and participate in volunteer appreciation programs and special events
  • Maintain volunteer records; oversee the CERVIS volunteer program
  • Performs quarterly volunteer surveys

Successful candidates will have:

  • Associate Degree in human services, in lieu of Associate’s degree-a High School Diploma/GED and 2-3 years of volunteer department work related experience.
  • Strong communications and time management skills.
  • Detailed oriented, adaptable, organized and able to successfully handle multi-tasking.
  • Excellent telephone etiquette with professional verbal and written skills a must.
  • Must be comfortable speaking in a group setting.
  • A mature walk with Jesus Christ and be able to articulate belief.
