Buffalo City Mission’s vision is to restore hope to the homeless and hurting of Western New York. We provide emergency shelter and nourishing meals to thousands of homeless men, women and children. But we don’t believe that’s enough.

Job Description:
This position advocates and provides holistic, comprehensive case management services to clients including intake assessment, benefit assessment, goal setting, long-term case plan development, weekly case plan development, progress monitoring, individual money management, tenant education, advocacy and referrals.

Key responsibilities

Successful candidates will have:

Major Gifts Officer

Job Description
The Major Gifts Officer works closely with the Associate Executive Director to develop and implement strategy for individual major gift donor relationship; fund raising initiatives for Capital Campaign and future initiatives for planned giving to meet short and long-term goals for the organization. The primary objective of the Major Gifts Officer is to develop long-term relationships built on a firm understanding of donor’s philanthropic interest, passions and values.

The successful candidate will be responsible for soliciting gifts of $5,000 and higher from donors, supporters and friends of the organization. It is understood that initial assignments will have a history of making gifts to the organization of $1,000 to $100,000.

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, Full time position. Some night, weekends and holidays may be required as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a portfolio of primary prospects, create, integrate and implement short, intermediate and long-term individual major gift donors.
  • Develop strategic funding requests based on short, intermediate, and long-term funding goals of the high net worth individuals.
  • Act as primary relationship manager for individual and private foundation prospects of $10,000 or more/year to reach or exceed annual funding.
  • Manage relationship process for individual major gift donors including prospect solicitation, briefings with primary relationship manaagers.
  • Cultivate and expand current giving by planned gift donors and integrate planned gift objectives into major individual donor requests in collaboration with Director of Individual Partnerships.
  • In the first 90 days the Advisor is to engage in relationships with approximately 50 current donors and will be expected to identify, qualify, cultivate, and solicit major gifts. At the conclusion of the initial 90 days the portfolio will be expanded to 150 names.

Successful candidates will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or equivalent.
  • 3-5+ years of nonprofit fundraising experience, preferably with capital campaign, major gift experience and planned giving;
  • Demonstrated ability to meet financial goals for major giftgiving;
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically andcreatively;
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, and work with minimalsupervision;
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office Suite computerskills;
  • Professional attitude andappearance;

Risk Managment Lead

Job Description
This position is responsible for assisting in maintaining a supportive, safe, secure environment for all individuals including clients, staff, volunteers and guests of the City Mission as well as reporting all possible risk to safety and or security at the Mission’s facilities.

Hours: Full time, no more than 40 hours/week, shifts are as follows:
7a.m. – 3:00p.m., 3:00p.m. – 11:00p.m. and 11:00p.m. – 7a.m.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for training security staff on processes and polices of the organization and report status to Director –  Risk Management.
  • Oversee shifts of contract security and work together to complete post orders
  • Monitor client and guests activity, assuring the environment remains safe and secure.
  • Assist Director – Risk Management with enforcing all safety and security policies and procedures consistently.
  • Document all safety and security incidents and log unusual occurrences in security log.
  • Greet all guests and facilitate the sign in process for all volunteers and guests that enter into the facility.
  • Treat and interact with all clients and visitors in a respectful Christ like behavior

Summer Day Camp Counselor - Buffalo City Mission

This temporary part-time position will be responsible for overseeing children during our summer program.  Activities will include supervising the children during fieldtrips, teaching Bible stories and concepts, participating in and facilitating weekly activity classes and much more as we  instruct children on the theme of this summers’ camp: “Conquering Challenges with God’s Mighty Power”.

• Work Schedule: Temporary position, Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM–4:30 PM (June 27th—August 12th), 40 hours per week. .

• Work Schedule: Part time – flexible afternoon and evening hours, Monday through Saturday including Holidays, up to 28 hours per week.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Greet customers and assist in a manner representative of the Mission and its values.
  • Operate cash register to cash-out customer selections and bag purchases.
  • Maintain the store including stocking shelves, re-hanging items, keeping the dressing rooms empty of discarded selections, returning merchandise to their proper area and creating displays.
  • Receive incoming merchandise and sort, tag and price donations.
  • Test electrical appliances and determine the usability of furniture and home décor.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee status of Sex Offenders residing in the building and maintain an up to date file on current residents.
  • Facilitate support groups for Veteran clients.
  • Act as liaison between for BCM with Veteran Administration and the Law Enforcement agencies pertaining to re-entry clients and update Manager-Case Management.
  • Represent and assist Veteran’s with any issues or needs they may have while at the Mission (ex. obtaining DD-214, Upgrade of Discharge, linking with VA Homeless Outreach Office, VA Hospital, etc.).
  • Conduct comprehensive client assessments to collect functional, environmental, psychosocial, financial, employment, housing, educational, and health information as appropriate to develop a case plan.
  • Conduct an Initiate Individual Service Plan (ISP) by assisting participants in realistic goal setting; program selection, designing outcomes and helping clients understand their responsibilities and program benefits.

Successful candidates will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Social Work or Criminal Justice required, Qualified Health Professional status preferred.
  • 5 plus years’ experience in Human Services related field.
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office.

  • Veteran with a DD-214 of Honorable Discharge.

Volunteer Community Coordinator - Buffalo City Mission

Job Description:

This part-time position is an integral component of outreach to our community and will be responsible for maintaining ongoing in-kind donations, community drives and holiday resident gift databases.  This position will also facilitate court ordered volunteer orientations, research and participate at school fairs to generate awareness of the Mission and host tours.

    • Work Schedule: Part time, up to 28 hours per week.  Flexible hours: days, evenings and weekends as needed.  Must be available to work holidays as needed (ex. Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc.).

Key Responsibilities:

Donation Coordination:

      • Ensure the policy and procedure of the Mission’s internal donation process
      • Maintain communication and follow up needs with in-kind donors
      • Receive donations and follow thank you process to build donor relations
      • Documents community events and effectively communicates story and picture to PR
      • Organizes, tracks and documents off-site volunteers school hour’s orientations
      • Provide volunteer orientation for court ordered volunteers as well as placement
      • Provides tours for community as needed
      • Implements volunteers and staff supervisors yearly appreciation plan under the direction of the Manager of the Volunteers
      • Available for special volunteer events (Turkey Express, Hambone Express, etc.)
      • Assists Volunteer Department in other areas as needed
