Buffalo City Mission’s vision is to restore hope to the homeless and hurting of Western New York. We provide emergency shelter and nourishing meals to thousands of homeless men, women and children. But we don’t believe that’s enough.

With the strengths of our Men’s Center and our new state-of-the-art shelter for women and children, Cornerstone Manor, Buffalo City Mission provides comprehensive recovery programs to help homeless men, women and children rebuild stable, healthy, productive lives.

The purpose of Buffalo City Mission is to proclaim and demonstrate the life-changing Gospel of Jesus Christ, meeting the spiritual, physical, and emotional needs of men, women and children who are homeless or in need of hope, by providing the following:

Adjunct Teacher for Buffalo City Mission

Job Description:
This class instruction position involves a broad spectrum of topics related to the dynamics of addiction, life disabling conditions and its relatedness to self- insight, decision making and homelessness.

Key responsibilities:

  • Instructs diverse students on broad and specialized areas within the human service setting.
  • Assists in the preparation of course descriptions, course outlines and lesson plans as required by the Education Department.
  • Instructs two (1) hour classes weekly.
  • Prepares and reviews homework, worksheets and other activities to evaluate students.
  • Maintains attendance record.
  • Communicates with the Education Manager related to student problems and need for additional student support.
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of topics related to addiction and other related subject matter;
  • Must have a good knowledge of teaching techniques

**Please note, this is a Part-time hours (28 hours/week) posting.  The position of Chaplain at Buffalo City Mission is to uphold the Mission Statement, Statement of Faith, and Values of the Buffalo City Mission as defined in the Employee Handbook.  The position of the Chaplain will help oversee all Christian activities in the evenings including, Bibles studies, Chapel Services and spiritual guidance for those in need.

Dispatcher Assistant at Buffalo City Mission

Job Description:
This full-time position is responsible for clerical duties of the logistics department  and assisting the  Logistics Manager as needed.
Work Schedule: Schedule will include rotating Saturdays.

Key responsibilities:

  • Phone liaison handling and assisting with scheduling donation pick-up appointments and community events.
  • Create drivers’ schedules based on donation pickup appointments scheduled.
  • Oversee and assist with donor drop off donations at the Cornerstone Manor and coordinates donation pick up with drivers.
  • Assist/coordinate with the Volunteer department during holiday and collections drives.
  • Responsible for documenting all receivables that come into receiving department.
  • Responsible for filing documentation of all receiving items: Mileage logs, gas receipts, food bank donations, etc.
  • Accept and sort all incoming donations while providing excellent customer service and a welcoming environment for donors.
  • Create and monitors excel spreadsheet for monthly donor pickups, salvage and gas reporting.
  • Receive and coordinate daily deliveries, ensuring accurate accounting and documentation recording.

Lead Chef

Job Description:
This position is responsible for planning for well-balanced, nourishing meal preparation and for meeting the dietary needs of the clients of the Buffalo City Mission.  In addition this position is responsible for instructing volunteers and clients in minor food preparation, serving meals, and cleaning up the dining room and kitchen after each service.

This is a full time position.

Key responsibilities:

  • Responsible for assisting the Food Service Manager with the preparation of the department’s yearly Budget.
  • Responsible for working within the constraints of department’s yearly budget.
  • Responsible to supervise and train staff for effectiveness and growth.
  • Oversee residents work chores in dining room and kitchen.
  • Supervise and teach residents and transient clients in food preparation and dining room setup.
  • Conduct routine monthly food safety inspections.
  • Maintain a sanitary environment that is in accordance with NYS Sanitary Regulations and ensure that staff is trained and performing in conformance with regulations.
  • Serve nutritionally balanced dietary meals for clients.
  • Establish an organized workable environment that lends towards easy food preparation by staff.
  • Maintain adequate levels of food supplies are maintained and properly stored.
  • Maintain a friendly, collaborative relationship with other staff and residents.
  • Establish and ensuring safe cleaning procedures according to regulation standards.

Resident Coordinator - Cornerstone Manor

This position fosters a Christ-like caring atmosphere, focusing on like skill development in a safe, healthy, healing environment, while striving to meet the practical needs of all residents.
This position reports to the Manager-Residential Services.

Openings:
Part Time 2nd shift 3p.m. – 11p.m. (including weekends, every other Sunday)
Full Time 2nd shift 3p.m. – 11p.m. (including weekends, every other Sunday)
Part time, 3rd shift 11p.m. – 7a.m. (including weekends, every other Sunday)
Full Time 1st shift 7a.m. -3p.m. (including weekends, every other Sunday)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Acclimate residents to the facility through the Mission’s initial intake and orientation process.
  • Communicate behavioral actions through the incident reporting process.
  • Conduct unit inspections, document and communicate appropriately to respective management and provide feedback to resident and case management.
  • Reports vacated units and prepare them for new residents.
  • Assist residents with day-to-day housekeeping of facility, sleeping, and lounge areas.
  • Oversee emergency shelter linen exchange as well as residents’ laundry.
  • Conduct direct observation drug and alcohol screenings, including breathalyzer and urine tests.
  • Ensure physical comfort and safety of the residents as well as meet their needs for food, shelter, clothing and personal care.
  • Maintain effective communication between staff members and Case Managers by means of various communication vehicles including matrix log, incident, written and verbal reports.
  • All other assigned job responsibilities as needed.

*In addition to the above responsibilities the Shift Lead* position also includes the following additional responsibilities:

  • Communicate with Manager-Residential Services to seek guidance related to higher decision and implementation as needed.
  • Facilitate shift meetings to keep team informed of trainings, procedures, etc.
  • Guide residential coordinators on shift in a manner that supports BCM policies and procedures by implementing policies and procedure guidelines consistently and impartially.
  • Be the point of contact by communicating with Manager-Residential Services to seek guidance related to higher decision making when needed.

Safety Monitor

As a representative of the Buffalo City Mission this position is responsible for fostering a compassionate, welcoming greeting to all who enter the building.  In addition observing and reporting incidents in order to help ensure a safe, secure environment for clients, staff, volunteers and visitors in and around the facility at all properties.

Job Description:
This position supervises some of the client service team and participates in supervisory responsibilities. In addition, advocates and provides holistic, comprehensive case management services to clients including intake assessment, benefit assessment, goal setting, long-term case plan development, weekly case plan development, progress monitoring, individual money management, tenant education, advocacy and referrals.

  • Work Schedule: Full time position, Monday through Friday, occasional weekends and holidays as needed.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide supervisory support to the department manager.
  • Provide direct supervision to assigned team personnel to ensure department policies and procedures are adhered to.
  • Conduct record reviews to ensure intakes, discharges and ongoing plans are accurate supporting data integrity.
  • Assist program manager with monthly data reporting.
  • Provide interim on-call services in the absence of program manager.
  • Conduct program intakes as necessary.
  • Conduct comprehensive client assessments to collect functional, environmental, psychosocial, financial, employment, housing, educational, and health information as appropriate to develop a case plan.
  • Conduct an Initiate Individual Service Plan (ISP) by assisting participants in realistic goal setting, program selection, designing outcomes and helping clients understand their responsibilities and program benefits.
  • Provide supportive case management and advocacy for clients.
  • Facilitate community referral, linkage and follow-up with clients and agencies as appropriate to document use/success of referral including permanent housing and economic improvement.
  • Identify and address potential problem areas/ concerns. Consult appropriately with supervisory staff and agencies. Conducts crisis intervention as necessary.
  • Provide all required documentation in a timely manner, which may include client follow-up, outcome evaluation, client contact sheets, and evaluations.
  • Participate in regular staff meetings, staff training programs, supervisory sessions, and accept the responsibility for aiding the development of positive team relationships as requested.
  • Facilitate client classes to support client progress.
  • Maintain a caseload of clients and provide holistic and comprehensive case management services.
  • Regularly monitor and verify services provided to each client, determining quality and effectiveness.
  • Ensure that records and files are updated, accurate and organized and submit reports as required.
  • Maintain professional communication with all staff members, agencies, interns, volunteers, and clients.
  • Adhere to agency policy, procedures and guidelines in a consistent and nonbiased manner.
  • Develop client plan to meet client needs to comply with Federal, State and County Parole/Probation Officers conditions while a resident.
  • Assist in Code Blue efforts as needed.
  • Represent the organization to all clients, volunteers and fellow co-workers in a Christ like manner that serves as an example of Christian behavior.

Successful candidates will have:

  • Minimum of Associate Degree from an accredited college or university in Human Services or related field required, Bachelor Degree preferred or equivalent experience.
  • Qualified Health Professional status preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience working in a Human Service case management capacity or equivalent and minimum 1 years supervisory experience.
  • Be dependable, with the ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriate boundaries.
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Job Description:

This position’s main objective is to build positive relationships between the Buffalo City Mission and its volunteers.

Work Schedule: Part time, up to 28 hours per week.  Flexible hours: days, evenings and weekends as needed.  Must be available to work holidays (ex. Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc.).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implements the Mission’s policies and procedures regarding community donations of in-kind goods throughout the year ie. Christmas gift needs for the men, women and children.
  • Ensures that supportive follow-up communication with donors and staff are maintained as needed.
  • Builds relationships with donors and suggests creative ways of engagement as needs arise.
  • Initiates shared information and updates with all involved organizations to include churches, businesses and groups participation. Forwards interest in further committed engagement to Manager-Volunteers.
  • Schedules appointments with donors to receive donations and ensures that a follow-up Thank you communication is sent to donor.
  • Tracks all donations received by the Volunteer dept.
  • Oversees Court Ordered orientation, placement and tracks hours for reporting.
  • Performs tours at both Cornerstone Manor and Tupper locations for volunteers and groups.
  • Implementation of volunteer and staff yearly appreciation program under the direction of the Manager-Volunteers.
  • Oversees the Men’s Community Center Birthday Event.
  • Assists with overseeing volunteers/groups/events as needed.
  • Assists with Turkey or Hambone Express annual events.
  • Represent the organization to all clients, volunteers and fellow co-workers in a Christ like manner that serves as an example of Christian behavior.

Successful candidates will have:

  • Associate Degree in social sciences, communications or related field, in lieu of  Associate’s degree, a High School Diploma/GED + 3-4 years of volunteer department work related experience
  • Strong communications, time management and good managerial skills. Detailed oriented, adaptable, organized and ability to successfully handle multiple projects and tasks.
  • Is positive and enthusiastic.
  • Communication Intelligence – Listens to others, able to communicate issues clearly and credibly with widely varied audiences and overcome resistance; fosters open communication and manages emotion in positive ways.  Comfortable speaking in a group setting.
  • Excellent telephone etiquette with professional verbal and written skills a must!
  • Working with homeless or low-income families and substantial knowledge of community resources helpful.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office. Experience working with databases desirable.
  • A mature walk with Jesus Christ and be able to articulate belief.
