Buffalo City Mission’s vision is to restore hope to the homeless and hurting of Western New York. We provide emergency shelter and nourishing meals to thousands of homeless men, women and children. But we don’t believe that’s enough.

With the strengths of our Men’s Center and our new state-of-the-art shelter for women and children, Cornerstone Manor, Buffalo City Mission provides comprehensive recovery programs to help homeless men, women and children rebuild stable, healthy, productive lives.

Job Description:
This position advocates and provides holistic, comprehensive case management services to clients including intake assessment, benefit assessment, goal setting, long-term case plan development, weekly case plan development, progress monitoring, individual money management, tenant education, advocacy and referrals.
• Work Schedule: Full time position, Monday through Friday, 8am to 4:30pm.

Key responsibilities
:
  • Conduct comprehensive client assessments to collect functional, environmental, psychosocial, financial, employment, housing, educational, and health information as appropriate to develop a case plan.
  • Conduct an Initiate Individual Service Plan (ISP) by assisting participants in realistic goal setting, program selection, designing outcomes and helping clients understand their responsibilities and program benefits.
  • Conduct assessment intake with individuals who express interest in entering the Transitional Program.
  • Identify and address potential problem areas/ concerns. Consult appropriately with director, staff, and agencies. Conducts crisis intervention as necessary.
Successful candidates will have:
  • Minimum of Associates Degree in Human Services or a related field or the equivalent experience
  • Minimum 3 years of professional experience working in a social service case management capacity

Chaplain - Buffalo City Mission - Part Time

Job Description:
The position of the part time evening chaplain at Buffalo City Mission is to uphold the Mission Statement of Faith and Values of the Buffalo City Mission as defined in the Employee Handbook. The position of the evening chaplain will help oversee all Christian activities in the evenings including, Bibles studies, Children’s Ministry, Chapel Services and spiritual guidance for those in need.

Work Schedule: 3:30- 8:30pm, no more than 28 hours a week.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct assessment intake interviews with the intent of identifying spiritual needs and referrals.
  • Assist clients in establishing goals with regard to their spiritual journey programs.
  • Maintain accurate records and good organization of forms and files.
  • Organize worship services in creative and spiritual ways.
  • Facilitate spiritual classes.
  • Interview chapel speakers for an evaluation of where they stand spiritually in regards to BCM’s statement of faith and core values.
  • Carry out the goals of the pastoral care department.
  • Offer religious and spiritual guidance to residents/clients, staff, and administrators.

Food Service Attendant - Part Time

Job Description:
This part-time position is responsible for reheating pre-cooked food to proper safety temperatures that will be served to 180+ clients. In addition, this position is responsible for instructing volunteers and clients in minor food preparation, serving meals, and cleaning up the dining room and kitchen after each service.

Hours: Part time, up to 28 hours/wk.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Experienced in safe food handling processes.
  • Knowledge of reheating and maintaining proper food temperatures of pre-cooked meals and acceptable food storage and cleaning techniques.

Major Gifts Officer

Job Description
The Major Gifts Officer works closely with the Associate Executive Director to develop and implement strategy for individual major gift donor relationship; fund raising initiatives for Capital Campaign and future initiatives for planned giving to meet short and long-term goals for the organization. The primary objective of the Major Gifts Officer is to develop long-term relationships built on a firm understanding of donor’s philanthropic interest, passions and values.

The successful candidate will be responsible for soliciting gifts of $5,000 and higher from donors, supporters and friends of the organization. It is understood that initial assignments will have a history of making gifts to the organization of $1,000 to $100,000.

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, Full time position. Some night, weekends and holidays may be required as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a portfolio of primary prospects, create, integrate and implement short, intermediate and long-term individual major gift donors.
  • Develop strategic funding requests based on short, intermediate, and long-term funding goals of the high net worth individuals.
  • Act as primary relationship manager for individual and private foundation prospects of $10,000 or more/year to reach or exceed annual funding.
  • Manage relationship process for individual major gift donors including prospect solicitation, briefings with primary relationship manaagers.
  • Cultivate and expand current giving by planned gift donors and integrate planned gift objectives into major individual donor requests in collaboration with Director of Individual Partnerships.
  • In the first 90 days the Advisor is to engage in relationships with approximately 50 current donors and will be expected to identify, qualify, cultivate, and solicit major gifts. At the conclusion of the initial 90 days the portfolio will be expanded to 150 names.

Successful candidates will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or equivalent.
  • 3-5+ years of nonprofit fundraising experience, preferably with capital campaign, major gift experience and planned giving;
  • Demonstrated ability to meet financial goals for major giftgiving;
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically andcreatively;
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, and work with minimalsupervision;

Manager - Donor Relations at Buffalo City Mission

Job Description
The Donor Relations Manager works with the Associate Executive Director to create and direct department’s priorities and strategies with the goals of increasing visibility, increasing donor retention, and increasing funding/donors.

The successful candidate will work in conjunction with the staff, development team, volunteers, and other constituents in support of the overall success of the organizations fundraising efforts, including providing support for memorial giving, annual fund, special events, and other marketing and community relations activities.

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm, 40 hours/week.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work extensively to build and strengthen relationships between the Mission and the community and constituents it serves, with a focus on event sponsorships, corporate gifts, and the annual giving fundraising campaign.
  • Maintain and support the consistent branding message that is relevant to our mission focus, emotionally connects to our target audiences, sustain donor loyalty and help distinguish the Buffalo City Mission from other like organizations to ensure that individual donor strategies are integrated into appropriate communication and marketing channels and tools such as: (website, newsletters, e-appeals and other related fundraising initiatives).
  • Support the planning and execution of fundraising events, point-of-entry tours, and individual donor solicitation and stewardship by providing effective communication tools such as: agendas, presentations, videos, and testimonies.

  • Oversee emergency shelter linen exchange as well as residents’ laundry.
  • Conduct direct observation drug and alcohol screenings, including breathalyzer and urine tests.
  • Ensure physical comfort and safety of the residents as well as meet their needs for food, shelter, clothing and personal care.
  • Maintain effective communication between staff members and Case Managers by means of various communication vehicles including matrix log, incident, written and verbal reports.

Risk Managment Lead

This position is responsible for assisting in maintaining a supportive, safe, secure environment for all individuals including clients, staff, volunteers and guests of the City Mission as well as reporting all possible risk to safety and or security at the Mission’s facilities.

Hours: Full time, no more than 40 hours/week, shifts are as follows:
7a.m. – 3:00p.m., 3:00p.m. – 11:00p.m. and 11:00p.m. – 7a.m.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for training security staff on processes and polices of the organization and report status to Director –  Risk Management.
  • Oversee shifts of contract security and work together to complete post orders
  • Monitor client and guests activity, assuring the environment remains safe and secure.
  • Assist Director – Risk Management with enforcing all safety and security policies and procedures consistently.
  • Document all safety and security incidents and log unusual occurrences in security log.
  • Greet all guests and facilitate the sign in process for all volunteers and guests that enter into the facility.

Volunteer Coordinator - Part Time

Job Description:

The Volunteer Coordinator will be responsible to actively engage volunteers and schedule each individual by matching the interests of volunteers with an opportunity that best suits their skill set/interest to be able to serve the organization’s needs. The volunteer coordinator must make an effort to ensure that individual volunteers feel comfortable with their placements and fully understand their responsibilities.  Will also be responsible for all communication channels to volunteers and keeping them abreast to happenings within the organization and informed of additional opportunities to participate.

Work Schedule: Part time, up to 28 hours per week.  Flexible hours: days, evenings and weekends as needed.  Must be available to work holidays (ex. Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc.)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the screening, interviewing and training of new volunteers
  • Maintain volunteer records
  • Survey staff regularly to assess needs for volunteer assistance
