From This Day Forward - Buffalo City Mission

Community Changers

Kelsey and Christopher’s admiration of ministry shown by the Mission, its goals and successes, and their love for the Western New York area, moved them to designate Buffalo City Mission as the charity of choice for their wedding registry.

From This Day Forward: Millennial Couple Kelsey and Christopher’s Charity Registry

In the recent months since their engagement, Kelsey and Christopher have selected items for their wedding registry that will be useful as they celebrate their upcoming marriage and future life together. With great emphasis today on materialism, one can easily become caught up with acquiring more and more for themselves at such a wonderful time of “gift giving.” While thinking of how they could counter this, they read an article, which discussed the idea of including a charitable organization on one’s wedding registry. A quote by the CEO of Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors, Melissa Berman, convinced them that this was exactly what they wanted to do… “I think there’s a growing awareness among Millennials that what you do with your whole life should reflect your values.” (New York Times, March 24, 2017)

The couple began a search for a charitable organization that they admired and that reflected some of life’s essential values. Kelsey moved from Buffalo when she was five years old, and remains close with her Buffalo family, returning many times throughout the years, especially for holidays. She vividly remembers one Thanksgiving some 15 years ago, when her family joyfully served wonderful meals at the Buffalo City Mission. This was a very moving and personal experience for her and meant a great deal.

Kelsey and Christopher are amazed at how the Buffalo City Mission not only works to sustain existing supportive and restorative services to those in critical need, but also evolves to meet deeper needs of the thousands of Western New York residents it serves. One example that impresses them is the Cornerstone Manor residence project, which allows clients to live in a community that supports them with education, skill training, and other services. One of the things they like most about Cornerstone Manor is the ability of children to live with parent clients during this restorative time– truly unique among similar communities.

Their admiration of ministry shown by the Mission, its goals and successes, and their love for the Western New York area, moved them to designate Buffalo City Mission as the charity of choice for their wedding registry. This provides an opportunity for their family and friends to contribute in their name as a gift to both the Mission and to themselves. What a wonderful way to commit to their new beginning together and, as Millennials, to support and give back to the community!
