WOMEN AND CHILDREN'S SHELTER
(Cornerstone Manor)
Childcare: Infant, Toddler and Preschool
Women and Children’s Shelter is looking for committed volunteers who have a compassion for working with children and enjoy having fun. The women and children’s shelter has a wonderful childcare program for little ones ranging from newborn to preschool.
Volunteer requirements: positive attitude; respect and acceptance for each child’s needs; physically able to handle children’s high energy level; willing to submit to a criminal background check. We need individual volunteers for a 2-4 hour period each day, Monday-Friday, during the hours of 8:30 a.m.–4 p.m. We’ll work with your schedule whenever possible.
URGENT NEED—Monday, Tuesday and Friday afternoons from 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m.
After-school Homework Club
Women and Children’s Shelter needs committed volunteers to assist our program coordinator in executing creative activities, helping the children with homework, playing games and helping with snack time. Volunteers must enjoy working with children and be physically able to handle children’s energy level. We need 2-3 volunteers for a two-hour period, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, 3:30–5:30 p.m. (or 4:00 p.m. through 6:00 p.m.)
This is an excellent opportunity for college/high school students needing to complete community service hours. We ask for a 1-3 month commitment willing to do at least 15 hours or more.
Adult Education Programs
Women and Children’s Shelter needs for teacher assistants to tutor women in our recovery program in math, English, basic computer skills and other subjects, and help women prepare to take their GED examination. Other duties may entail leading discussions, preparing lesson plans and putting together workbooks and orientation packets. We need two volunteers, any day Monday-Friday, 1 p.m.–4 p.m.
Medical Clinic—urgent need!
Women and Children’s Shelter has an urgent need for nurses to assist doctors at our on-site clinics. The pediatric clinic is open Wednesday mornings; the adult clinic rotates weekly, Tuesday and Thursday. We will work with your schedule whenever possible.
Donation Receiver
Women and Children’s Shelter seeks volunteers who are detailed and organized to assist the resident receiver with receiving, sorting and storing incoming clothing and miscellaneous donations. We need one volunteer each day, Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.–2 p.m.
MEN'S CENTER
Agape Shop Coordinators
Groups are invited to work in our Agape Shop, a clothing room set up like a store in our Men’s Center, serving our Men’s Center guests, and low-income men, women and children in the community. Groups should include individuals with good organizational skills and the ability to work independently with little assistance. Donations come in daily; group will help keep shelves stocked and sort, tag and hang good donations. Volunteer groups of 3-6 people work 3-4 hours, any day Monday-Friday, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. and Saturdays, 9 a.m.-noon.
Agape Shop Team Leader
If you are a committed individual with the gift of leadership, we need your help to maintain our Agape Shop and lead teams volunteering there. You must be detail oriented, organized and a self-starter. You must be willing to orient new teams to the Agape Shop’s needs and be available to consult as needed.
Kitchen Pantry
The Men’s Center is looking for committed individuals who are neat, health conscious and enjoy organizing. This job entails sorting, rotating, organizing and stocking food products, and cleaning our food pantry. We need three volunteers any day, Monday through Friday, 10 a.m.–12 p.m.
Provide Meals and Serve Meals
The Men’s Center and Women and Children’s Shelter (Cornerstone Manor) is seeking volunteers groups to adopt a meal. Groups will prepare on or off site, deliver and serve the meal plus help with the clean up. This meal could be identified as a fellowship breakfast, summer barbecue, holiday feast, ethnic meal and/or how about “pizza and wing night”. In addition, we are seeking groups who will prepare and deliver but not serve. Call 854-8181 X 408 for more details.

Sunday Sack Lunch
Help provide the Sunday noon meal for our residents by making sack lunches! Residents return at various times after church each Sunday. Sack lunches allow each individual or family to enjoy their meal in our dining halls whenever they return. A traditional sack lunch includes a sandwich, chips, fruit, dessert and drink. Groups must prepare 100 lunches and deliver them by 2 p.m., Saturday. Call (716) 854-8181, ext. 408 for details.
Kitchen Preparation
Individuals are invited to assist our chefs with meal preparations, dining room set-up and serving food. We need three volunteers, any day Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.–1 p.m. and 3-7 p.m.
Kitchen Cleaning
We are looking for individuals to help keep our dining room, kitchen, coolers and cooking areas sparkling clean and sanitized! Volunteers assist between 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. and 2-4 p.m., any day Monday through Friday.
Building Upkeep
The Mission needs hardworking individuals and/or groups who enjoy housekeeping and sanitation chores. Duties include cleaning the men’s, and women and children’s dorms and rooms, sanitizing beds and mattresses, and general cleaning. We need 4-6 volunteers, any day Monday–Friday, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Ice Cream Social Craft Activity and Snack Popcorn Night and a Movie Day/Night
We are seeking volunteer groups to sign up to adopt an activity night at our Men’s Center or Women and Children’s Shelter (Cornerstone Manor). Groups will provide food and entertainment, serve and help with clean up. Time frame is 1-3 hours depending on the activity. Call (716) 854-8181, ext. 408 for details.
Medical Care—urgent need!
Buffalo City Mission urgently needs enthusiastic, kind medical professionals such as dentists, physician assistants, doctors, physical therapists, podiatrists and chiropractors. Schedule will be as flexible as possible to suit your needs.
Licensed Barber and Beautician
Buffalo City Mission seeks to partner with certified barbers and beauticians willing to volunteer to cut our guests’ and residents’ hair. We need two barbers and beauticians twice each week. Schedule will be as flexible as possible to suit your needs.
ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICES
Volunteer Photographer
Buffalo City Mission’s Public Relations Department, located at the Men’s Center, seeks a photographer who likes to be creative! Duties include updating our display board, covering special events and taking photos for our publications. This position is “on call.” Days and times vary.
General Office Work—urgent need!
The Men’s Center and Women and Children’s Shelter (Cornerstone Manor) have an urgent need for committed volunteers to help with general office duties including mailing, data entry, filing and correspondence. We also need volunteers with advanced computer skills in Access, Excel, Power Point, and other Windows-based programs. Hours are any day, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. 4 p.m. Volunteer must make a 2-4 hour commitment once or twice each week.
BUFFALO CITY MISSION THRIFT STORE
Thrift Store Operations
We are looking for energetic and goal-orientated volunteers willing to assist in our thrift store, creating displays and restocking merchandise. Volunteers may also sort, tag and hang clothing and assist our cashier with customer purchases. We need two volunteers each Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 11 a.m.–3 p.m.
Thrift Store Cleaning
Our thrift store needs energetic, organized volunteers to help keep our store shelves and sales floors clean and neat. Volunteer may also straighten and organize backroom storage areas. We need one volunteer each day, Monday, Wednesday, Friday, from 1–5 p.m.
Seasonal Display Help
We’re looking for energetic volunteers who possess creative marketing skills in display building and/or signage. The volunteer hours will be prior to seasonal changeovers for major holidays. We need 2-4 volunteers to work “on-call.” We will work with your schedule as much as possible!
Thrift Store Stripping and Waxing the Floors
Needs 3 – 4 guys (could be teens) who are strong and healthy who would be willing to do some bull (heavy) work.
Saturdays 6/30, 7/7, 7/14, 7/21, 7/28 from 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm
Floors are going to be done and we need some guys willing to move racks, furniture etc.
Thrift Store
Volunteers needed who would be willing to work alongside our staff at the thrift store hanging and tagging clothing plus stocking shelves.
