Welcome Kits Year-round When people come to Buffalo City Mission for shelter or to join our recovery programs, often the only baggage they carry are worry, hunger and pain. Days, weeks or even months on the streets have taken a toll on their bodies and minds. And once they walk through our doors, we become completely responsible for their care. In addition to a bed and meals, we must supply all the daily necessities most of us take for granted. Without our help, a mother is unable to provide a toothbrush or toothpaste for her child at bedtime. A man has no means to shave the stubble from his face. Towels … cold medicine … or just a bottle of lotion—these things are simply out of reach when you don’t have a penny to your name. We distribute Welcome Kits throughout the year to new shelter guests, providing them with basic personal care necessities. These simple items let every homeless man, woman and child know someone cares about their needs and bring each person dignity, comfort and relief.
