Our Finances
Buffalo City Mission is a privately funded, Christian nondenominational, 501 (c)3 tax-exempt, nonprofit organization. The Mission is governed by a godly, compassionate board of directors that understands its responsibility to assure your contributions are used honorably.
Since 1917, God has met the needs of the poor and homeless at Buffalo City Mission through His people. Over 95 percent of our annual support comes from individuals, businesses, churches and civic or service organizations who faithfully share financial gifts with the Mission.
We choose to receive no government funding that compromises our mission and purpose, and we are not a United Way agency.
Our Financial Principles
• We believe our supporters want to hear from us in times of plenty and times of difficulty. We pledge to act with integrity when raising funds. We will always communicate the Mission’s needs honestly and sensitively.
• We believe Christians should support their local church before any other organization. We will never encourage believers to support the Mission until they have first met their obligations to their churches.
• We believe each gift comes from people who give sacrificially. We use all gifts prayerfully and conservatively. No one becomes financially wealthy at Buffalo City Mission. All donations are used for the purposes they are given.
• We will promptly send receipts for all monetary donations.
• We will pay for our purchases immediately or within 30 days.
• We will never try to raise more money than we need.
• We will never sell or rent our donor mailing list.
• We will conform to the standards of the ECFA, submitting to an independent audit each year and maintaining an “open book” policy.

Association of Gospel Rescue Missions
Buffalo City Mission is a member in good standing of the Association of Gospel Rescue Missions (AGRM). The AGRM was founded in 1913 with these purposes:
• To promote cooperation among missions
• To develop higher standards of Gospel and relief work as well as rehabilitation of persons
• To prevent duplication
• To distinguish the properly operated mission from those that are not
• To conduct an annual convention, hold regional training institutes and to provide a training program for individuals within member missions
• To provide programs of benefit to its membership
Today, the AGRM continues to set standards that stretch its member missions to higher levels of performance by recognizing those who comply in basic health, safety, financial accountability and management standards through the Rescue Mission Certification Program and by encouraging membership in the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability.
